Yes my friends it has been a lonnnnng time since I have blogged. Everyone seems to go through their dry spells keeping up socially between Facebook, Twitter, blogging, emailing, updating websites etc. Well let that all be over now

I also took a sabbatical about showing my landscape art in galleries. That is also a thing of the past – POOF!

So without further adieu, you are all invited to the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) for this weekend’s gallery opening titled, “Tales of Breukelen”! I am showing for the first time in a year and yes I had to be very obvious in selecting Brooklyn Bridge shots for this show.

Come check them out! There are many festivities planed for the Saturday, September 17 opening – food, wine, live music, pizzazz! I will not be in attendance until Sunday, September 18 around 2PM. Let me know if you can make it; especially when I plan to be at the gallery!

Here is more info – click on the image to go to BWAC’s website:

Happy New Year!

Yes I have been slacking with my blog stories but only because I have been unbelievably busy which is a very good thing. One of my resolutions is to bring back news and interesting updates so watch out!

There will probably be one last redesign to my website and blog design and strategy to make things much easier for my clients and fans. Another resolution, sit back and put together a well thought out site.

In the interim, you may have read this story when I discuss my company Brooklyn Studio Tours in October. Or perhaps you just read in the NY Daily News by chance! In any case, I wanted to start off the New Year with one of the big stories from last year – a story that I continue to use as motivation for my personal and company goals. 2011 will be an amazing and progressive year!

Back in October 2010, the NY Daily News contacted me with the intention of publishing a story about Brooklyn Studio Tours and the budding arts scene in Red Hook Brooklyn. They did Google searches and immediately contacted me for an interview about the art studio tour (or artwalk) and my thoughts on Red Hook. I also recommended a few more artists that could add interest and relevance.

So here is the blast from the recent past – click this link to read the NY Daily News story from back in October. Leave me a comment or send me an email to let me know what you think. And also mark the 3rd or 4th weekend of May in your calendar – we will soon be publishing the dates for our large May artwalk.

Have a great year everyone and stay tuned – there are a lot of great things in progress to update you on!

- Dan

PS – Are you looking to do some photography in 2011? I am booking new clients now – call or email to discus your ideas and timing. Anyone booking prior to February 28 (for any booked date in 2011) will receive 15% off the shoot fee (not to be combined with any other offer).

LINK TO NY DAILY NEWS STORY – ARTOBERFEST OCTOBER 2010 – CLICK HERE

Hello out there! Over the past couple of months, alot has been happening although I have not supplied you with updates on my whereabouts or the exciting shoots I have participated on. Busy busy….

Well that changes today and going forward :–) . Let’s start with some coffee talk! Starbucks in Park Slope, Brooklyn located at 164 7th Avenue (click here for directions) has selectd my work for their store and it is now featured until July 31.

In addition to galleries, artwalks and the occassional flea, putting photography on display in local storefronts is a great way for added exposure. New people have the opportunity to see your work, comment on it, and email to let me know that they appreciate it. Sometimes this leads into an opportunity to land a new customer and always increases website traffic and gets more people continunally seeing all of my work.

It is interesting because when I do connect with a new contact this way (in this case, they would have seen my NYC landscape work), the people have usually visited my website, have seen my full portfolio and offerings and call to discuss pricing on things like portraiture and events. While I was hanging, numerous people came up to me to talk about the shots and I even had one sale.

If you are close to Park Slope or just driving by, make sure to stop in for a Venti Cafe Latte or in our Brooklyn lingo, “a large coffee (pronounced cough-eee),” and take a look at my Brooklyn themed photography up close and personal. I have included more shots below.

Enjoy!

Hello again friends!

YOU DIDN’T KNOW I WAS A LIFE COACH TOO!
Hope the summer is treating you all well; especially in these times it is most important to not lose focus on L-I-F-E ! Yes thats right – even when things look down and adversity sets in, I always have to take some steps backward and realize that it is the decisions you make during these times where you can make the biggest changes and differences in your well being and the well being of others all over the world. Don’t lose that focus and take things “out of range” as us fellow photographers always boast. The same holds true to your values, family, career, mind, muscles and body, etc. I can talk about this for hours so if this is your thing, feel free to contact me directly! To close, if I can recommend one book, it would be The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne Dyer. You will quickly puts things right back into perspective and be excited to what the future holds.

BWAC ART GALLERY UPDATE
OK on to the updates. The BWAC Summer Gallery Show is going well and continues until Sunday, August 16th. If you come on the last day towards the end of the day (around 3:30PM), the auction wall will start closing and each piece hanging will go to final bids. If you are the lucky winner, the art will ship that day. I have sold many pieces this way. These are more of a donation to the greater BWAC organization and in turn, people walk away with many afforable pieces of art that would normally cost 50 – 200% more. This week I will post my art in a private online gallery so you can see what I am showing at BWAC if you cannot make it down – this will all be for sale if you or a friend is interested.

BACK TO THE D.U.M.B.O. BROOKLYN STREETS
I have been invited back to DUMBO! I would have snuck my way in anyway! The last time I told you about DUMBO I was displaying some landmark and historical NYC photographs on the 11th floor of a building that boasted sweepinig views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, NYC Skyline and a famous clock tower (which is someone’s apartment!) – you can literally reach out and touch it! This time I will be on the 1st floor of a full glass space that will invite the public in naturally. Next Thursday evening, August 5 is the date. The 1 day showing is brought to you by the guys at General Particular and the gallery is called Collective Art. As an added benefit, the showing coordinates with the regular DUMBO Art Walk that occurs the 1st Thursday or every month. This is a gallery invite you do not want to miss out on! And if you “don’t travel to Brooklyn – lol”; let it be known that you are literally closer than you think from NYC and they may as well just deem DUMBO NYC already. So come on down! More information to follow later in the week.

ADVERTISING, MARKETING & ALL THAT JAZZ….
I have officially started by merketing campaigns online and as a result my portrait and event services are starting to boom. It is great to hear that when someone finds me they tell me they went to google and simply typed in “headshots” or “baby portraits” and poof – danmarinophoto.com pops up! OK – maybe I am too excited about that, but I do think this is the next step to success.

BECOME A TOPSTAR TODAY!
Another project I have been building which is now a reality and ready to rock n roll is TopStar Images – http://www.topstarimages.com- this is Marino Photography’s bid to offer stock images, video, paintings, sculptures, etc. to the world! Like traditional stock agencies, you can come to TopStar, do a search for a specific keyword (go now and type in “Brooklyn Bridge”), and find images for your print, web, marketing project for a relatively low cost. Unlike the traditional agencies…if you are an art lover, collector, looking to decorate your house, etc., TopStar provides the means to make professional high quality archival prints that will ship straight to your home for immediate “wall appeal”. In addition, TopStar will showcase incredible exposure to the artists of the world and allow you to work our arrangements to get that art into your living quarters! Check out www.topstarimages.com to see what I am talkng about. By the end of August there will be a substantial collection of items that will allow you to find what you are looking for. 5 new members just signed up so I am overly anxious to see what work will be donning the website in a month or less.

AUGUST SPECIAL DEALS FROM MOI TO YOU – “FREE PHOTO SHOOT MONTH!”
As always, I am looking for you referrals! There is no better way to take on a special assignment than to be referred from my friends, family, clients and colleagues. It keeps the extended family growing and provides lasting emotional nostalgic memories for years to come. So please refer me out and if your lead becomes a sale, you will immediately qualify for a free photo shoot! If a free shoot does not float your boat, then we can discuss a free professionally print 11 x 14 landscape print! How cool is that? When you refer your contacts, tell them to mention that it was you that referred them! Or just tell me yourself! I want to make sure you “get yours

——-

Lots of text today- phew! Next blog post will be pictures and 20 words tops! Now that will be a challenge but you all deserve it!

Speak with you soon,
Dan

- <![CDATA[
You are invited to another gallery opening this weekend in Red Hook! I will have some new works on display themed, "Black and White Sunrise, Black and White Sunset".

Each piece on display has a sub-theme "The Ocean". Come and see some new work and some different perspectives in locations such as New York City, Boston, Montauk and Aruba.

I have some staples on display from my beloved Coney Island; as well as a couple of items on the auction wall that relate well.

I hope to see you there - my panel numbers are 148 and 182. The show opens Saturday, July 11 an will run for 5 weeks until Sunday, August 16 - weekends only 1PM - 6PM. Visit BWAC's website for more details and directions.

The gallery is right off the Red Hook waterfront (across from Fairways and 2 blocks from IKEA) so you NYC dwellers can take the free IKEA water taxi while taking in some amazing scenic vistas of the Brookyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Statue of Liberty,NYC skyline, etc. There are even a couple of trolley cars off the waterfront that will catch your eye and bring you back to historic NYC - wouldn't it be great to see those on the streets again (see Brooklyn City Sreetcar Company for more details on that)?

Perhaps you can couple you visit with a stop to IKEA, the famous dessert spot baked, the famous Steve's Key Lime Pie, and/or to just take in some breathtaking scenic waterfront views (and bring your cameras!)

I hope to see you there one of these next 5 weekends - if our paths do not cross, then please reach and and tell me what you thought of my new works and the gallery in general - this is Brooklyn's largest art gallery.

Something new I will be doing - a few weeks into the show, I will post my items on display online for sale - think virtual gallery!

Hello friends,

Unfortunately, another NYC, Brooklyn and Coney Island Icon have suffered a great tragedy. As Coney Island itself continues to go through numerous unresolved issues, Totonno’s Napolitano Pizzeria, the oldest running family run pizzeria in Brooklyn, went on fire Saturday morning. From what the news stories say, it looks like the coal oven sparked a fire that reached the ceiling and made its way to the roof.

This small pizzeria that is still very much designed as when it first opened in 1924 is very near and dear to my heart. I have been going there for all 33 of my year s and still manage to get there every 2nd or 3rd Fridays to bring home a pie or two.

I will save a photo essay I was planning to put out here very soon for when the proposed re-opening occurs. I just convinced Cookie the owner to allow my to do a photo shoot at Totonno’s which I did complete on February 19. I think that a masterful story with supporting pictures is very necessary for this almost landmark of a place and a grand re-opening which hopefully does occur is most fitting.

** SOME DETAILS ABOUT THE SHOOT **

CHECK THESE PHOTOS ON http://danmarinophoto.com/

I will share some fond memories from past and present here and use some of the photos from the shoot to support it. I will also link you to my gallery so you can see all of these images now. My goal with the shoot was simple. I went into it with no pre-conceived desires; just the passion and feeling that I needed to shoot it for my own pleasure and archives. What I intended to capture were hidden treasures that uncovered themselves as I snapped the camera and focused the lens. The only design goal was to try and create a nostalgic feeling; making sure to mix in images that had an antiqued and rustic feel, really crisp BxW’s and vibrant color images the visually show Totonno’s in its current state today.

** MY OWN MEMORIES **

1) Nothing beats the pizza eating competitions I got into with Uncle Dennis as a young boy. Who can eat as many of these coal fired delicious thin crusted slices was the sole rule! Uncle D definitely cheated and I always let him know because he wouldn’t eat the crusts!

2) I will never forget the apartment shared by my wife (then girlfriend) Vanessa and I on Bay 50th Street and Cropsey. This location pretty much made Totonno’s our resident pizza haven for a few years! Can you say extra pounds!!! There many nights we would walk over the Cropsey Bridge and pop in for a white and a red.

3) To this day, I go in and ask for a medium red and a medium white only for Cookie to tell me, “We don’t have medium; just small and large!” I mean seriously why I can
